I REGRET TO INFORM YOU
by Dianne Rierson

The letter came one evening
I still remember the day.
Just knowing where it came from
I knew what it would say.

With shaking hands I opened it,
Afraid to even speak.
I knew what it was all about
With death it seemed to reek.

As I read the first words
I slowly bowed my head.
It said, "We Regret To Inform You",
But we feel you son is dead.

He was attacked over hostile waters,
Was all that they could say.
"We Regret to Inform You',
Your son was KIA.

My son chose to serve his country,
And now my heart is broken
"We Regret To Inform You'"
The words that they had spoken.
